Cause

The net profit from this 50/50 will be used to help purchase equipment and other priority items that are outside the normal budget for the benefit of our hardworking and courageous career and auxiliary firefighters who work tirelessly to protect our community.

During the Bald Range Wildfire, Summerland was protected by an extraordinary response from the BC Wildfire Service, the Summerland Fire Department and firefighters who came from across BC and beyond to help defend our community.

Even so, there were over 100 families who lost their homes and/or the livelihood from this wildfire! Our Summerland firefighters worked day and night as the wildfire rapidly approached our community. Within hours, within minutes the fire was in our community. With the fire at our doorstep, their courage, commitment and tireless efforts helped protect countless homes, businesses and lives.

The Summerland Fire Department includes 5 career firefighters and more than 27 active auxiliary firefighters. We are incredibly grateful to the members of our community who volunteer their time, undertake the required training and stand ready to serve when Summerland needs them most.
